Jan Vrhovnik is Slovenian-born, London-based filmmaker. Way before he was behind the camera, he was in front of it, acting in award-winning feature film Class Enemy, back in the day in Ljubljana. Picking up a pair of drumsticks at the age of twelve led to 6 years of touring with his band. Laying hands on his grandpa’s camera at the same age shaped his life.
At 18 he made his way to London to study contemporary music but the drumming turned into filming and this led to so much work, the degree was ditched in favour of shooting films. The percussive background was all about flow, structure and feel – the approach he carried across to his visual storytelling which ended up attracting commercial and fashion clients with the likes of The North Face, Gucci, JW Anderson, Vogue, British GQ, Sennheiser, Haig Club, Fanta, Bacardi, Dyson and Aston Martin. The big names don’t stop there. He’s worked with the likes of Sir Ian McKellen, Tom Felton and Rosie Huntington.
Jan’s curiosity in blending the elements of realism, fiction and poetic storytelling led him to making his latest short film ‘Paradiso’ which premiered on Nowness, been shortlisted at Berlin Commercials, 1.4 Awards and picked up numerous awards across the film festival circuit.
